BRSM Youth Union to cooperate with World Spils-Map Federation

MINSK, 15 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian BRSM Youth Union and the World Spils-Map Federation are set to sign a cooperation agreement on 17 July, on the sidelines of the Youth Day within the framework of the 30th edition of the International Festival of Arts Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, BelTA learned from official representative of the BRSM Central committee Natalya Stolpinskaya.

“The agreement will be signed by First Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee Dmitry Voronyuk and President of the World Spils-Map Federation Yevgeny Tyurikov. The signing ceremony will take place during the open dialogue ‘Lights of People's Unity' to discuss the youth policy development prospects in the Union State [of Belarus and Russia]. The event will be attended by the education ministers of Belarus and Russia's Novosibirsk Oblast, the team of the youth train project, and a delegation of the Novosibirsk Oblast branch of the Russian Youth Union,” Natalya Stolpinskaya said.

According to her, the BRSM and the World Spils-Map Federation intend to implement the national program “I know Belarus”. The program provides for holding spils-map competitions in schools, universities, libraries, cultural and recreation centers to promote patriotism among the youth. “The World Spils-Map Federation organizes competitions that help its participants study the administrative and territorial division of regions and countries in an interactive way,” Natalya Stolpinskaya explained. “The spils-map of Belarus represents a set of magnetic elements shaped as the country's districts that are assembled into the map of Belarus on a special magnetic board. Participants' task is to solve this jigsaw puzzle as quickly as possible. Those who succeed will be presented with the badge of merit ‘I know Belarus' for knowing the administrative and territorial division of their country,” she added.

Spils-maps were created by artist Yevgeny Tyurikov and named after cartographer John Spilsbury who invented the jigsaw puzzle.
