BelTA’s Superposition. Parallel Worlds book described as inoculation against forgetfulness

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – The materials the book Superposition. Parallel Worlds contains represent kind of an inoculation against forgetfulness, BelTA learned from Belarusian First Deputy Information Minister Andrei Kuntsevich.

Andrei Kuntsevich said: “It is worth noting that in the last few years an entire series of books has been published with assistance of the Information Ministry. They are based on modern social and political journalism, on the interpretation of the complicated processes going on in our country and around it. And Superposition. Parallel Worlds is one of the books that have been published with the Information Ministry’s support.”

In his opinion, everyone willing to get to the bottom of Belarus’ modern history and understand the origins of the Belarus president’s policy should read the book. “From my point of view, the book has collected unique materials before the Internet era of Belarusian journalism if I can put it like that. In my understanding these materials represent kind of an inoculation against forgetfulness,” he stressed.

Andrei Kuntsevich remarked that the team of authors had done colossal work and had given a lease on life to tens of newspaper publications of the mid-1990s. “We have probably started forgetting that that period was extremely complicated for our country. Indeed, Belarus was going through the deepest crisis in all spheres of life. But it was in that period that thanks to popular support and colossal trust of the people a man rose to power and could lead our country away from the abyss. And he could give it a chance for peaceful and creative development,” the first deputy information minister stated.

The official went on saying that newspaper publications printed 30 years ago also represent a key to understanding many current processes, particularly processes in the information sphere. “I can only congratulate the team of authors and the Belarusian Telegraph Agency on implementing another most interesting project,” he concluded.

The presentation of the book Superposition. Parallel Worlds took place at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus on 10 September. It was printed by BelTA’s publishing house with assistance of the Information Ministry. The texts were written by the head of the analytical center EcooM, member of the scientific advisory group under the State Secretariat of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Musiyenko.

It is a unique publication because it presents the entire diversity of materials from state-run and opposition printed media of the mid-1990s, which are not available to the general public. Newspaper headlines reflect the country’s life at the beginning of the efforts to establish Belarus’ independence. They also reflect the problems and challenges Belarusians faced and how the young state tackled them.

The book is already available for sale in the retail chains Belkniga and Akademkniga.
