Belarusians brought from Wuhan to Kazakhstan show no coronavirus symptoms

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – Belarusians evacuated from China's Wuhan to Kazakhstan show no symptoms of coronavirus, Belarusian Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“We keep in touch with the Belarusian Embassy in Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Healthcare of Kazakhstan. As of today, they all (the evacuated Belarusians) show no symptoms of the disease, their condition does not give reasons for concern. Laboratory tests and examinations are underway. After the quarantine period is over, a decision will be made on sending them back home,” Vladimir Karanik said.

On 2 February five Belarusian nationals were evacuated from Wuhan, Hubei Province that had been put under quarantine by Chinese authorities. With the help of Kazakhstan, the evacuees were brought to Nur-Sultan where they were taken to hospital. They will stay there until the quarantine is over.

All in all, according to the Belarusian Embassy in China, there were 12 Belarusian nationals in Wuhan. Eight of them were reached out by phone. Five Belarusians who wanted to get out of Wuhan were brought to Kazakhstan. “As of today, taken into consideration the number of Belarusians in Wuhan, there is no need to send a special aircraft to get them out of there. We got in touch with the rescue services of Kazakhstan and Russia. Both of them agreed to take Belarusians on board while evacuating their nationals,” the minister said.

Russia has plans to evacuate its citizens one of these days. “If there are any Belarusians who want to leave China, they will be offered seats on the planes of the Russian Federation flying from Wuhan and other regions where evacuation will take place,” Vladimir Karanik said.

Belarusian nationals living in China are encouraged to call the Belarusian embassy (+86 155 1061 8510) if they want to get back home.
