Belarusian, Russian scientists to expand cooperation to ensure Union State technological sovereignty

MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) – Scientists of Belarus and Russia intend to expand cooperation for the sake of ensuring the technological sovereignty of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus told BelTA after a session of the interacademy council of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on the development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergei Chizhik mentioned the importance of the topic on the agenda. In his words, the Belarusian academy is getting actively involved in import substitution efforts now. “I think that import substitution and technological sovereignty are very close topics. Today Belarusian scientists have schedules for work with various ministries and government agencies and in the manufacturing sector, chemical industry, and informatics. This is why the blocs submitted for the session are of extreme current interest,” the official said.

Participants of the session discussed a number of important matters relating to the expansion of cooperation between Belarusian and Russian scientists for the sake of ensuring the technological sovereignty of the Union State. Fundamental science in the field of artificial intelligence and information security, technological sovereignty in the field of genetic technologies, healthcare and agriculture, pharmaceutics, low-tonnage chemistry, and scientific instrument-making were discussed. Close attention was paid to the development of the technological sovereignty of Belarus and Russia in the field of mechanical engineering, primarily within the framework of creation of high-strength tools and materials. The scientists also paid attention to technological sovereignty in power engineering, including in new green energy, hydrocarbon processing, and modernization of conventional energy industry.

It was noted that Belarusian and Russian scientists should rely on powerful scientific potential, pool efforts for the sake of achieving significant tasks and successfully accomplish the tasks the two economies face today.

Cooperation between the two academies is an important aspect of international activities of the scientific organizations. The available mechanisms for scientific and technical cooperation within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia allow effectively carrying out joint fundamental and investigative research, realizing projects in high-priority areas of scientific, R&D, and innovative activities of Russia and Belarus.

The interacademy council on the development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia was established in 2004. It provides informational and organizational support for the realization of joint plans. The council closely cooperates with the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Russian federal government agencies, and Belarusian government agencies.
