MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Belarusians joined the celebration of Maslenitsa that took place in the capital of Kazakhstan on the square near the Holy Dormition Cathedral, one of the most vibrant and beloved folk holidays, symbolizing farewell to winter and the welcoming of spring, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan.
The festive events were attended by Aleksei Bogdanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Kazakhstan; Archimandrite Sergius; Alexey Borodavkin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Kazakhstan; and representatives of the Belarusian and Russian diasporas.
Visitors were welcomed in a warm, hospitable atmosphere, complete with a festive fair, traditional Maslenitsa pancakes with assorted fillings, hot tea, and folk merriment with songs and performances.
“The participation of Belarusian representatives in the Maslenitsa celebration served as yet another confirmation of the traditionally good and constructive relations between the peoples of Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan, as well as the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage,” the Belarusian embassy in Astana said.
