MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) – Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin has checked the progress of large-scale military exercises at one of the training grounds, BelTA learned from the Defense Ministry.

The defense minister is personally overseeing the large-scale exercise involving troops from the Western Operational Command. He heard reports from officers at the command post. “The minister’s interaction with military reservists is a regular part of his visits to training and combat mission areas. The defense minister has one rule in such situations: be open and frank about problems, and ask any questions without limits,” the ministry noted.

Viktor Khrenin presented shoulder boards to reserve officers who had received promotions to the next military rank.

The minister also visited another area of the comprehensive exercise with troops of the Western Operational Command. Units there have occupied staging areas, are setting up positions, and are conducting missions to repel attacks by enemy sabotage and reconnaissance teams as well as unmanned aerial vehicles of the simulated enemy.

The head of the military department visited the command post of a mechanized battalion and heard the commander’s report on the current situation, as well as the command post of an anti-aircraft missile and artillery battalion covering the airspace over the exercise areas. He also inspected the living conditions and service environment of the military reservists.
