Belarusian army to send units to Minsk to help with disinfection against COVID-19

MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) – As many as 170 military chemistry specialists and 60 vehicles will start helping disinfect healthcare institutions and industrial facilities in Minsk next week in order to minimize the spread of the coronavirus infection, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

The personnel have already received standard disinfection kits and specifically prepared ones as well as modern means of individual protection and disinfecting agents.

Vyacheslav Starkov, Chief of the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Command of the Armed Forces of Belarus, explained that the personnel, weapons, and special hardware had been prepared for disinfection duties. A composite battalion based on the 8th Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Brigade will march to Minsk where it will be tasked with disinfecting facilities of the Healthcare Ministry and industrial facilities. The personnel will use standard-issue equipment and protective gear of the Belarusian army. New solutions will be used as well in order to improve the quality of disinfection.

Units of the 8th Brigade will have to carry out a broad range of tasks, including outside disinfection of buildings and facilities, disinfection of indoor premises, disinfection of various territories, roads, machines, vehicles, equipment, and other objects.
