MINSK, 8 March (BelTA) – Family is not a hindrance for a career but a pillar of support. Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova made the statement as a comment on the occasion of Women’s Day, BelTA has learned.
According to the speaker of the Council of the Republic, modern women are not only engaged in their chosen careers, but also take an interest in world affairs and matters of security and stability in their own country. Their lives are multifaceted and their interests are diverse. However, true success in life is determined by the harmony between the personal life and the professional one. In this regard, family is not an obstacle to a career, but rather a pillar of support.
Natalya Kochanova is convinced that starting a family does not preclude professional growth. “One does not replace the other. A woman who has fulfilled herself as a mother and wife is more confident professionally. Yes, she has less time because she has to devote attention to her family and children. At the same time, she feels more confident in life,” said the speaker of the Council of the Republic. She added that, in her opinion, this balance is what defines a fulfilling life for any woman.
Inner balance directly affects the feeling of happiness, which is different for everyone, but is inextricably linked to the well-being of the country, the speaker believes. “Every woman evaluates her happiness differently, depending on her character and attitude towards life. Some are happy because they bought a car while others are happy because they received a bouquet of daisies or cornflowers,” said Natalya Kochanova. However, this feeling is inextricably linked to understanding and assessing the more global processes taking place in the world and the country, the speaker believes.
The speaker of the Council of the Republic noted that a truly happy person is someone who realizes that the state cares about them and creates conditions for education, work, professional and personal growth. “The understanding that you were born, studied, got a profession, and started a family in your country in peace and prosperity is human happiness. And it doesn't matter what your position or profession is today or how old you are,” Natalya Kochanova emphasized.
Turning to the topic of the Year of the Belarusian Woman, the speaker spoke about the initiatives and events that the Council of the Republic plans to organize. “We have taken a very serious approach to working out the events for the Year of the Belarusian Woman. A plan of events has been developed and approved by the government, to which we have contributed our proposals. These are quite interesting events, which, I think, will reveal our women and show their versatility, beauty, charm, intelligence, and talent,” said Natalya Kochanova.
The Council of the Republic will hold a number of events that have already become traditional. Among them, for example, is the forum “Talking about what matters: a happy family is a strong state”, where participants discuss the importance of spiritual and family values and good relationships within the family. A Belarusian-Uzbek women’s business forum will be held. Thanks to this platform women not only communicate professionally and discuss economic matters, but also become good friends, the speaker noted.
A number of new initiatives will be implemented. “We have proposed creating a digital platform to highlight the women who have made a significant contribution to the development of our country. On this platform you will be able to read about the lives of famous women who have brought glory to our country in different periods,” said Natalya Kochanova.
The Council of the Republic has also initiated a campaign called “A helping hand.” The idea is that every female parliamentarian will befriend a woman who needs help (not necessarily financial, but perhaps kind advice, a tip, or help with medical treatment). “We have already started working in this direction. I am far from thinking that we will talk about this in public, because it is not quite right. But if every one of us can privately support at least one woman who finds herself in a difficult situation and helps her, that would be wonderful. We will try to do everything we can to ensure that every woman understands and knows that there are people who will help and will support her,” the speaker concluded.
