Belarus studying equipment certification experience of Novovoronezh nuclear power plant

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – Specialists of the Belarusian nuclear power plant visited the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant recently. The experience of Russian colleagues in the engineering certification and registration of commissioned equipment with oversight bodies and with the nuclear power plant operating company was examined, BelTA learned from the press service of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant.

The delegation met with Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant Deputy Chief Engineer for Safety and Reliability Oleg Kucherenko, Head of the Environmental Protection Department Olga Romanova, and technical specialists of various divisions. The delegation visited the third and fourth power-generating units, the chemical water purification building, and the local fire station, which is assigned to protect the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant.

The Belarusian specialists were interested in the organization of knowledge checks of the nuclear power plant personnel, in the structure and functions of the environmental protection division, in engineering certification procedures, in separate waste collection, water consumption measurements, wastewater disposal, and many other things.

Belarusian nuclear industry specialists have studied the experience of their colleagues at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant for years. Aleksei Tarushko, Head of the Technical Inspection Department of the enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, noted that this cooperation will not cease even after the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant goes online. “The Novovoronezh nuclear power plant uses reference units with VVER-type reactors. Huge experience has been accumulated here regarding all the stages of the lifecycle of the nuclear power plant. It could be useful for Belarusian nuclear industry specialists,” the official was convinced.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in December 2019, with the second one to go online in July 2020.
