OSTROVETS DISTRICT, 25 March (BelTA) – Belarus does persistent and comprehensive work on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), BelTA learned from Vladislav Tatarinovich, Belarusian Finance Minister, the national coordinator on reaching the SDGs, after the roundtable session on partnership in the interests of implementing the regional strategy on sustainable development of Grodno Oblast.

“Today we have finalized our new approach to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Republic of Belarus shows very good results,” stated Vladislav Tatarinovich. “As of the end of 2025 the progress was close to 83%. And these are not only assessments by our national experts, but also by international experts and representatives of UN country agencies.”
Throughout 2025 and so far in 2026, under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the UN country team, representatives of leading UN agencies operating in the Republic of Belarus, and representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, working trips were made to all regions of Belarus. Grodno was the last region visited where concrete results were used to demonstrate progress not only at the national level but also in specific regions. Using the city of Ostrovets as an example, the emphasis was placed on the Belarusian nuclear power plant, and the capabilities of educational and healthcare institutions were also demonstrated.

“In February 2025 a new sustainable development strategy for the Republic of Belarus was approved for the period up to 2040,” said Vladislav Tatarinovich. “At the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026, regional sustainable development strategies for the same period were approved. Their priorities, goals, and objectives as specified by our common agenda were naturally adapted to account for regional development.”

The national coordinator for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals emphasized that all of them are aimed at improving people’s lives. “Most importantly, the SDG agenda is also reflected in our medium-term planning and projection documents. The Belarusian People’s Congress has approved a program of social and economic development for 2026-2030 — our five-year plan — which is already being implemented. And although this document is a state document, a document of the social and economic variety, the main goal of the five-year plan is to improve the quality of life for every Belarusian,” noted Vladislav Tatarinovich.

At the end of 2025 Belarus was ranked 32nd among the 167 countries that have joined the program. Vladislav Tatarinovich pointed out that this is a high ranking and added that Belarus is approximately 2.5 times ahead in terms of progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals on a national scale. The speaker noted that last year Belarus presented its third voluntary review of the progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. “Assessments indicate that the Republic of Belarus is an active participant in implementing this agenda and demonstrates very, very good results,” stated Vladislav Tatarinovich.

“We carry out this work consistently. It is comprehensive in nature. The main body responsible for implementing these goals and tasks of the sustainable development agenda is the Council on Sustainable Development, which includes representatives of leading government agencies, oblast administrations, the Minsk City Executive Committee, parliamentarians, representatives of the business community and civil society. Young people are also quite actively involved in this process through our institute of youth ambassadors,” said the national coordinator for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
