Belarus’ NOC president comments on decree to support sports organizations

MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) - The changes stipulated by Decree No. 337 of 17 September 2025 “On Providing Support to Sports Organizations” will benefit the industry, President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko said at a seminar-meeting held at the National Olympic Committee, BelTA has learned.

Under the new mechanism, sports federations will be able to receive subsidies from the national budget, with the use of funds strictly designated for specific purposes. Funding based on sponsors obtaining tax benefits will no longer be provided.

“Decree No. 337 was developed over several years. We had to consider many details and avoid mistakes. I am confident that as a result of close cooperation from all stakeholders, we have managed to create highly effective mechanisms to support our sports industry, and all these changes will be solely for the better. In the very near future, we will need to adapt, learn to live with these changes, and work efficiently,” said Viktor Lukashenko.

“The fundamental difference between Decree No. 337 and the previous version, Decree No. 191, is the fact that federations and clubs will be able to receive a subsidy for their operational activities. Previously, efforts had to focus on securing tax benefits or finding sponsors, and this funding did not always arrive on time. Now, stable operation in key areas is guaranteed: maintaining the material and technical base, purchasing equipment and inventory, and paying wages,” Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Aleksandr Baraulya said.
