MINSK, 2 December (BelTA) – The appointment of the new culture minister is a very significant event, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on 2 December as he announced new appointments, BelTA has learned.
The new Culture Minister is artist Ruslan Chernetsky. He is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives.
"It is a very significant appointment, if not the most important one. You know our culture well, you have worked concerts, films, and so on. The only question is whether you will be able to govern all this. Of course, we will make sure you have a person with appropriate experience you can rely on," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president noted that he had to deal with cultural workers more than once. According to the head of state, these are very different people, but talented, capable and very ambitious. "Probably, you will figure it out as you are part of this. I always feel sorry for the culture minister in the sense that he has to deal with people of great ambitions," he said.
“All of them [cultural workers] seem to be patriotic, aiming at the same goal, but they move differently towards them. At the beginning of my presidential careeer I tried to solve all the problems of each cultural worker. All the problems. I tried my best to understand all of them. Then I realized that if I deal only with the problems of these people, I will not have enough time for anything else. Moreover, I could see that if you did a good job, everyone would be happy, but tomorrow some group would zealously oppose what you had done and say that it was all wrong and that you should not have helped. There was a lot of chaos then,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
According to the head of state, competition in the cultural sector is really high, but there is no escaping it.
“Competition is a necessary thing. Those who are more talented move to the top. There are those who cannot withstand this competition. Well, they all chose this road for themselves. Although I cannot say that I don't support people's aspirations to be at the top. They all want to be at the top, they all want to be visible. That is their job,” the president added.
