Lukashenko highlights importance of farmers' capacity building, sharing best practices

ORSHA DISTRICT, 11 August (BelTA) – I believe we need a more thorough approach to farmers’ capacity building and dissemination of best practices, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he visited OAO Agrokombinat Yubileiny in Orsha District on 11 August.

“I thought about it at Kupalovskoye [Holding Company in Shklov District] yesterday. We sometimes replace managers too often, do not work with them. I see that all of them are good responsible people. They reason justly, they understand everything. Attitude to them is not the one that used to be before, however,” the head of state said.

“Why not improve skills in Yubileiny, Ustye [a flax cultivating enterprise in Orsha District] on some issues, on flax, for example? Why not learn new things? Managers themselves should work on it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

This experience is very useful. For example, when touring the farm, Aleksandr Lukashenko paid attention to the involvement of former allotment gardens into agricultural turnover. They used to serve as additional farming land plots but are no longer used by people.
"Make sure to use all former allotment gardens. Everything should be involved into agricultural use," the head of state emphasized.

Director of Agrokombinat Yubileiny Aleksandr Firsin noted that they are doing everything to maximize the use of such plots. The issues are solved in cooperation with village councils. If someone cultivates an allotment garden but the land around it is already vacant, they offer to move the garden to a more convenient location, providing everything necessary for its development. "For example there is an isolated allotment garden with the land around sitting idle. We offer the owner to relocate it and offer free help with soil tillage. That’s how we work today,” the head of the farm noted.

"This is the right strategy," the president responded.

The previous two days that the president has spent in Shklov District were also dedicated to agricultural issues. First, the meeting in Shklov discussed ways of effective development of agricultural sector on the example of two GDP-forming districts: Shklov District and Orsha District. The following day, the head of state convened another meeting in the agro-town of Gorodishche in Shklov District to scrutinize the feasibility of a project to set up a large integration structure with the participation of Kupalovskoye agricultural holding company. The project was given a green light. But the main things that Aleksandr Lukashenko demands are efficient work, putting the existing facilities and territories in proper order, maintaining executive and technological discipline.
