Lukashenko: Any war starts with internal destabilization today

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – Any modern war usually starts with internal destabilization, not external aggression, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting with the personnel of the Internal Affairs Ministry on 30 October, BelTA has learned.

“I would like all the law enforcers and the army to understand that wars no longer start with external aggression, they start inside. Such a war was prepared for us, too. Everyone should understand that we are mobilizing everything we have to defend our country, our land, our families and our children. I want you to understand this,” the president said.

The head of state recalled the situation on the western borders when he had to make a decision about troops redeployment there. “We have a tense situation on the western border. It is good what I heard from Mike Pompeo [U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, who assured the president during the recent telephone conversation that neither NATO, nor Poland and Lithuania pose a military threat to Belarus]. It is good. I took these things into account,” the president said.

“Look, they made moves there as soon as this mess started here... Viktor Khrenin [Belarus' Defense Minister] knows the situation better. I told him to get the army units which are combat ready on alert. We had to redeploy half of the army in the western direction. They calmed down, understood that we are not joking,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
