Lukashenko: Agriculture has its heyday now

ORSHA DISTRICT, 21 June (BelTA) – It is necessary to take advantage of high food prices on the global market and make the most of the domestic agriculture in the coming years, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he talked to the staff of the Yubileiny agricultural company in Orsha District on 21 June, BelTA has learned.

“Agriculture has entered a golden age. We should make the most of the situation this year and next year, because your products cost a lot of money, especially outside the country. Food prices have skyrocketed. Therefore, we should seize the moment. I believe that agriculture is experiencing its heyday now. No one knows how long it will last. I am sure that this year and next year there will be unprecedented opportunities for those who produce agricultural products and foodstuffs. Therefore, no matter how difficult it might be, you should make as much money as you can in these years in order to improve your financial standing, or to pay off loans and continue to work steadily,” the Belarusian leader said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko praised the Yubileiny agricultural complex for its good performance: “Well done, you are doing a good job. In a sense, you are an example to follow for Vitebsk Oblast, and even for the rest of the country in some respects, including when it comes to management. Your fields look good, there are almost no remarks”.

According to the president, working in agriculture has some benefits and he knows it first-hand as he once led an agricultural company. “It is rewarding to see the result of your work,” he said.

In this regard, he wished that children of the workers of the agricultural complex will also choose a career in agriculture. Moreover, smart children from rural areas can be enrolled in an employer-sponsored plan, and specialties in agriculture are now in great demand. “It is true, agriculture is not a walk in the park, it is always difficult here, but it is interesting, I am sure,” the Belarusian leader said.

“Thank you again for choosing to work in agriculture. I know that not everything is simple. But your farm is not bad. You have all the opportunities to live a good life,” the head of state concluded.
