MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko heard out a report from Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik on 23 September, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.

Progress in field work was discussed. This year the region intends to gather in over 2.1 million tonnes of grain (including rapeseed). As the oblast promised, the figure will exceed accomplishments of the past by a considerable margin.

Most of the conversation was focused on the next year’s harvest: the sowing of winter cereals and the availability of fertilizers.

During the conversation with Piotr Parkhomchik Aleksandr Lukashenko also touched upon the topic of the manufacturing sector. When he was appointing Piotr Parkhomchik head of the oblast administration, the president gave instructions not to avoid problems of the economy branch, see what is going on in the manufacturing sector, and get involved in hard-to-address issues. Among other things Piotr Parkhomchik was instructed to work with heads of enterprises and to help the young minister.

In particular, the report mentioned performance of the flagships of Belarus’ manufacturing sector – MTZ, Gomselmash, the Belarusian steel mill BMZ, major enterprises located in Brest Oblast. The work of troubled enterprises was discussed at length.

Another chapter of the report focused on interaction with Chinese partners, with whom the region has an entire range of promising projects.
