MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) - Sport is a universal tool for overcoming barriers and uniting people regardless of their sex or race, political or religious affiliation, status and age, Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas said at a special high-level event “Sports diplomacy: creating opportunities through sport”, BelTA has learned.
“These days the capital of Belarus has become the center of sports life of the continent. In addition to the athletes and participants of the 2nd European Games representing all European countries, Minsk is hosting numerous fans and tourists, foreign statesmen and public figures, heads of international organizations, Andrei Dapkiunas said.
According to him, sport is an essential factor in strengthening social integration. Belarus therefore wants sport to come to every family. A healthy lifestyle, one of the most important priorities of the policy of the Belarusian state, has become a hallmark of the country. “Sport is the key element of the identity of any modern nation and outstanding athletes rightfully serve as ambassadors of their countries in the international arena,” Andrei Dapkiunas noted.
