“I know the letter has been signed,” the Belarusian diplomat was brief.
Speaking about the latest negotiations with representatives of the United States of America in Minsk, Valentin Rybakov noted that the U.S. delegation had experienced a pleasant shock.
“I guess they didn’t let me go for about 15 minutes before going back to their hotel. They admired the president’s conversation manner. They admired (and they admitted it) the open and sincere conversation,” the diplomat said.
News about a new round of Belarusian-American negotiations was released in the afternoon on 11 September. It was revealed that Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko had had a meeting with the U.S. president’s representative John Coale. It was not the first time the American had been to Minsk. He already negotiated with the Belarusian head of state in June as part of a delegation led by the U.S. president’s special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg.
As for the latest meeting itself, the parties discussed about ten various matters relating to the entire range of Belarusian-American relations. Aleksandr Lukashenko suggested discussing sincerely the global situation in the context of interests of the USA and Belarus. “We will not be able to avoid matters of war and peace,” he said.
John Coale brought a letter from Donald Trump to Minsk. He read it out during the meeting with Aleksandr Lukashenko.

“Dear Mr. Lukashenko! Melania joins me in sending our best wishes on the occasion of your birthday,” the message reads. “As you look forward to the coming year, we pray for your health and well-being, as well as continued progress toward our shared goals on behalf of the United States and Belarusian people.”
