Mexican honorary consulate opens in Minsk

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – An honorary consulate of Mexico opened in Belarus on 25 September, BelTA has learned.

During the opening ceremony in Minsk, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov expressed hope that the honorary consulate would contribute to the development of trade, economic, and cultural ties.
“This is a major step in the development of our bilateral relations,” the deputy foreign minister noted. “Our two countries complement each other economically. We love multiculturalism and stand for peace and independence.”

“The sincere friendship between our countries is important,” he emphasized.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mexico to Belarus Eduardo Villegas Mejias expressed confidence that the honorary consulate would help boost economic, humanitarian and cultural contacts between the two countries. He pointed out that Mexico offers excellent opportunities for tourism, and Belarus also has many places that would be of interest to Mexicans.
“It is important to find ways to realize the potential of bilateral cooperation and to promote rich Mexican culture in Belarus,” the ambassador said, noting the upcoming Mexican cultural festival in Minsk.

Honorary Consul of Mexico in Belarus Yuri Dashkevich emphasized that there is significant work ahead and he will do his utmost to facilitate the development of Belarusian-Mexican relations, including the supply of Belarusian goods to Mexico, potentially including Belarusian linen.
