SMOLENSK, 28 May (BelTA) - The unprecedented level of personal communication between President Aleksandr Lukashenko of Belarus and President Vladimir Putin of Russia is setting the tone for the entire Belarus-Russia Union State agenda, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi said at a meeting of the High Level Group of the Union State Council of Ministers in Smolensk on 28 May. Dmitry Krutoi co-chaired the meeting, BelTA has learned.
“The last time Minsk hosted the High Level Group meeting was in September 2024. Since then, we have held several significant events, including the Union State Council of Ministers meeting in November and the Union State Supreme State Council meeting in December, both marking the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Union State Foundation Treaty. During the period between these meetings, Belarus held a major political event: the presidential election, which the incumbent leader confidently won. Following this, key appointments were made to a new government of the Republic of Belarus. Since then, the leaders of Belarus and Russia have met in person three times and continue to hold regular phone conversations. Next month, Minsk will play host to major events related to the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, along with another planned bilateral meeting,” Dmitry Krutoi said.
"So I believe that this unprecedented level of personal communication between the leaders of our countries sets both the direction and tone for the entire agenda of the Union State and for the work of our group," he emphasized.
The head of the Belarus President Administration also pointed out the record high trade figures between Belarus and Russia: last year, trade grew by almost 6.5%. He highlighted trade in services which surged by nearly 20% in 2024. "I always mention in my speeches that perhaps we often undeservedly overlook the service sector. But these growth rates of 20% annually (momentum continued in January-April 2025) show how important relationships in this area are becoming," he remarked.
“Speaking in the Federation Council [of the Federal Assembly of Russia] in March this year, our president emphasized that despite the different resource potentials of Belarus and Russia, we complement each other and unite the advantages of our countries across all areas of development. The main goal and immediate priority remains unchanged: to ensure the implementation of a unified, coordinated industrial and technological policy,” Dmitry Krutoi concluded.
