MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) — Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov participated as a main speaker in a plenary session of the Belt and Road Summit held in Hong Kong, China, on 12 September to discuss markets’ development with new opportunities, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The minister briefed participants of the session on Belarus' approaches to promoting the Belt and Road Initiative, emphasizing its creative force and role in strengthening the potential of the global majority countries.
Maksim Ryzhenkov stressed the devastating nature of current approaches of the collective West and, in particular, the EU. He hoped that the situation would change.
A number of bilateral meetings with the heads of delegations of Malaysia, Cambodia, and Bahrain took place on the sidelines of the summit.
The program of the second day of the minister's working visit included meetings with Hong Kong partners. The parties discussed the state of bilateral trade cooperation within the framework of the economic agenda and emphasized the positive dynamics of trade in goods and services between Belarus and Hong Kong, as well as the increase in business activity. The sides outlined new directions and formats of interaction in trade and investment.

During a meeting with Cui Jianchun, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China (with the rank of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs), the parties discussed a broad agenda of bilateral cooperation, focusing on effective regional ties, interagency contacts, development of the potential of trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation with Hong Kong and the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area, including in implementing projects of the Belt and Road Initiative. The meeting also summarized results of the first-ever visit of the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs to Hong Kong.
