MOSCOW, 1 July (BelTA) – The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) upholds the initiative of Minsk to hold high-level conferences on Eurasian security annually, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said in an interview with BelTA.

“It is important to emphasize that Belarus has always demonstrated an extremely responsible and proactive approach as a member of the CSTO. Many political and defense projects of the organization received impetus thanks to the active position of Minsk. The CSTO Secretariat highly appreciated the constructive position of Belarusian counterparts, in particular their approach to addressing issues discussed at the meetings of the statutory bodies in Almaty in May-June of this year,” said the CSTO secretary general.

“The High-level International Conference “Eurasian security: reality and prospects in a transforming world” is one of Belarus’ latest major initiatives that deserves special attention. It was held in Minsk in October 2023, during the chairmanship of the Republic of Belarus in the CSTO. It is hard to overestimate the importance of the conference, given the profile of the participants and the outcomes of the discussions. We support the initiative of Minsk to make this conference an annual event, and we believe that it may well become a Eurasian alternative to the Munich Security Conference,” Imangali Tasmagambetov emphasized.
