BEIJING, 29 August (BelTA) - The upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin has been entrusted with three main missions: reaching a consensus among all parties, stimulating the driving force for cooperation, and planning future development, Chinese diplomat Fan Xianrong said.
According to him, China strives to make the summit amicable, united, and fruitful. The leaders of the SCO member states will sign and publish a declaration, approve the SCO development strategy for the next 10 years, make statements on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Second World War and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and adopt a number of outcome documents on strengthening cooperation in security, as well as economic and humanitarian fields.
“The Tianjin summit will be held at a world-class level to live up to the expectations of all parties. It will bring the SCO to a new stage of high-quality development, characterized by greater solidarity, closer interaction, more dynamic vitality, and higher efficiency,” Fan Xianrong noted.
“The SCO will continue to open its doors and welcome the accession of more countries that endorse the Shanghai Spirit to the SCO family,” the diplomat added.
In his words, the SCO is currently at a crucial stage of enhancing the quality and level of its development, facing both opportunities and challenges.
“China will work jointly with all parties to promote the high-quality development of the SCO,” said Fan Xianrong.
According to him, through the “SCO Plus” model, the organization will attract more countries to participate in cooperation across various fields within the SCO framework, in order to bring more stability and positive energy to the world.
The SCO summit will take place in Tianjin, northern China on 31 August-1 September. Chinese President Xi Jinping will preside over the 25th meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council and the SCO Plus meeting, where he will deliver keynote speeches. More than 20 leaders of different countries and 10 representatives of international organizations will attend the summit at China’s invitation.
The SCO was founded in Shanghai on 15 June 2001. China assumed the rotating presidency of the SCO in July 2024 following the summit in Astana.
