Belarusian MP: The United States is once again trying to stage a coup d'état in Cuba

MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) - The United States, in its traditional manner, is once again trying to stage a coup d'état in Cuba, reads a letter from Sergei Klishevich, a member the House of Representatives of Belarus, the head of the working group on cooperation with the Cuban Parliament, to Cuban colleagues, BelTA has learned.

"We, the members of the working group of the National Assembly, strongly condemn any attempts to interfere and put pressure on the sovereign state, the Republic of Cuba, and its people. The recent dramatic events do not leave us indifferent. The United States of America, in its traditional manner, is once again trying to organize a coup d'état in Cuba. This is how we view the events taking place now in our brotherly Cuba," the letter says. "Similar destabilizing actions were undertaken in the Republic of Belarus in 2020, when they used the COVID-19 pandemic to politicize the society and then to organize mass riots with a political agenda.”

Sergei Klishevich noted that in Belarus, as in the case of Cuba, they actively involved the foreign diaspora, using the propaganda apparatus at full capacity and churning out demands "not to stop the riots."

"The protests in Belarus, as in Cuba, were coordinated through social networks, and once the active phase of the riots was stopped, they imposed sanctions. It is obvious to us that after Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador, they are testing in Cuba a new concept for regime change in Latin America. We also understand that the United States hopes that the slump of the global tourism industry will affect Cuba and weaken it, fueling social destabilization. In addition, the United States is thus trying to prevent the effective Cuban vaccine from entering the Latin American market,” the letter to Cuban MPs reads.
