Belarus, Uganda waive visas for holders of diplomatic and service passports

 

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Uganda have signed an intergovernmental agreement to waive visas for holders of diplomatic and service (official) passports. The document was signed following the talks between Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko and Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The talks were held during the official visit of the Belarusian head of government to this country, BelTA has learned.

According to the document, citizens of the two countries who hold diplomatic and service passports will no longer be required to obtain visas for entry, exit and transit, if the duration of their continuous stay on the territory of the receiving party does not exceed 30 days from the date of entry, and the total duration of stay within a calendar year is within 90 days.

The governments of Belarus and Uganda also agreed to set up a joint committee on trade and economic cooperation and signed a corresponding agreement. In addition, a memorandum on cooperation in food security was inked between the two governments.

A number of ministry-to-ministry documents were on the agenda. For example, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda signed a memorandum on political consultations. A memorandum on defense industry partnership was signed between the Belarusian State Authority for Military Industry and the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs of Uganda.

The Energy Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development of Uganda will cooperate in peaceful use of nuclear energy and formalized these plans in a memorandum. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Education Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Education And Sports of Uganda.

The government delegation led by Roman Golovchenko is currently on an official visit to Uganda. Negotiations were held with the country's leadership to discuss cooperation prospects, with a focus on agriculture.
