MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) – It is necessary to speak from a unified position against any actions aimed at interfering in internal affairs of sovereign states. Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik made the statement at the 5th conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network in Istanbul on 15 April, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Aleinik remarked upon the role of parliaments in ensuring climate-resilient urbanization in the Non-Aligned Movement zone. He expressed gratitude to the Republic of Azerbaijan because it was thanks to Baku’s far-sighted position that the creation of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network had been initiated.

“Over the course of several years it evolved into an authoritative structure that allows us, parliamentarians, to shape a collective agenda, coordinate efforts in the legislative sphere, and protect interests of our states at the global level in order to ensure their sustainable development,” emphasized the chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission. “This year the Non-Aligned Movement celebrates its 65th anniversary. Over this period we have built a system of interaction, conducting dialogue on the principles of equality and mutual respect, the supremacy of state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts – the principles that should underlie the entire world order.”
Sergei Aleinik drew attention to the fact that the meeting was taking place at a time of deep global turbulence. “Consequences of the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East have already extended far beyond the region, including in the form of direct threats to energy and food security not only for the countries of the region but also for many states in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, for the entire Global South,” the parliamentarian added. “All of this is further exacerbated by illegal unilateral sanctions and protectionist measures, which Western countries openly abuse. The Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network cannot stand aside. We need to speak from a unified position against any actions aimed at interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign states.”
“It is the parliaments of the Non-Aligned Movement countries that can and should make a significant contribution to promoting a peace-loving agenda, strengthening the Movement, and ensuring the sustainable development of every member state. First, through the harmonization of national legislation in areas of mutual interest. Second, through parliamentary diplomacy – the creation of interparliamentary friendship groups, exchanges of delegations, and joint hearings on the most acute issues on the global agenda. Third, through parliamentary oversight of the implementation of international obligations, including decisions of summits and ministerial meetings of the Non-Aligned Movement,” Sergei Aleinik said.

“Parliamentarians are also called upon to play a key role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, providing a legislative framework and integrating sustainability principles into national policies,” Sergei Aleinik noted. “Belarus systematically works to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.”

He drew attention to the fact that Belarus has achieved significant results in this area and ranks 32nd among 167 countries in the SDG achievement ranking (83% of the goals have been achieved). The program for the social and economic development of the Republic of Belarus for 2026-2030 includes further measures to ensure the sustainable development of the country in all spheres of life.

“We are ready to share our experience with colleagues. Our task today is to ensure stable development for current and future generations. Let us work together to make this world a better place,” the chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission urged.
