MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) – The Chinese side has a strong interest in holding the 1st Belarus-China regional forum, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Zhang Wenchuan said during a meeting with Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, on 24 March, BelTA has learned.
“China and Belarus are true friends. China always views our relations from the perspective of long-term interaction,” the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission noted.
The ambassador said that he recently visited Grodno, where interregional cooperation was among the key topics discussed. “We are ready to hold the 1st Belarus-China regional forum this year, and we have great interest in doing so. On our side, the organizers will be Gansu Province and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. On the Belarusian side, the organizer will be Grodno Oblast in cooperation with the Economy Ministry.”
Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan also shared the outcomes of the recently held Two Sessions, the annual meetings of China’s top legislative and consultative bodies. The key result of the congress was the adoption of the 15th Five-Year Plan for the Social and Economic Development Program of the PRC, covering 2026-2030. The diplomat noted: “The periods of the five-year development programs in Belarus and China coincide, and not only in timing: our goals and development strategies also largely align. We are ready to strengthen these relations with our Belarusian friends in all areas.”
The ambassador emphasized the importance of bilateral parliamentary contacts and the work of the high-level committee on cooperation between the legislative bodies of Belarus and China. “This cooperation is progressing very well, and the two meetings of the committee have already produced tangible results,” he said.
Following the talks with Sergei Aleinik, the Chinese diplomat told journalists: “We reviewed the results of last year’s work and coordinated our plans for this year. Cooperation between the parliaments of Belarus and China is an important component of the all-weather and all-round strategic partnership. This cooperation covers not only legislative work but also many other areas: economy, humanitarian contacts, exchanges between youth and women, cooperation in tourism, education, and culture. In other words, practically all fields.”
“This year we are ready to deepen cooperation in the legislative field; we have ambitious plans,” Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan stated.
