Snopkov: Belarus has enough foreign currency reserves

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) – The National Bank of the Republic of Belarus has sufficient foreign currency reserves to support cash and non-cash settlements, First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov told reporters following a government meeting to discuss economic matters and population needs, BelTA has learned.

According to the first vice-premier, the government had another meeting with bank representatives the day before. As a result of these meetings, the necessary joint measures were outlined together with the National Bank. “There is a complete understanding of what we should undertake amidst the stabilization of the situation in the financial markets, how to maintain the sufficient supply of Belarusian rubles the real economic sector needs for non-cash transactions, how to provide the sufficient amount of foreign currency, including cash,” Nikolai Snopkov said.

“The National Bank has a reserve to secure a stable and continuous currency supply, both cash and non-cash, that is needed for settlements,” the first deputy prime minister emphasized.

He added that joint measures will be taken to rule out speculative transactions in the foreign exchange market. “It is important that the government and the National Bank have the same vision of our short-term tasks, and today a joint action plan will be developed to offer guidelines for the real economic sector and the financial sector,” the first deputy prime minister said.
