New automobile sales 18% down in Belarus in 2020

MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – Sales of new automobiles in Belarus dropped by 18% in 2020 to about 53,500, BelTA learned from Aleksandr Sidorevich, Director General of the Belarusian Automobile Association, at a press conference on 14 January.

Aleksandr Sidorevich said: “The previous year gave us certain hopes – 65,000 vehicles. Since the figure went down to 53,500 in 2020, it is definitely a fall.” The figure is roughly on par with sales in 2018. In his opinion, the capacity of the Belarusian market is at least twice as large.

Automobiles of Russian make accounted for 70.22% of all the sold vehicles. The share of automobiles of Belarusian make rose from 10% to 17%. Pure import and import via Russia accounted for about 13%.

Dmitry Yarota, a member of the Board of the Belarusian Automobile Association, mentioned the top selling brands of 2020. Lada is at the top. It is followed by Geely and Renault.

Only several brands have managed to increase sales on the Belarusian market, including Geely (by 2,306 vehicles).
