MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) - Belarusian business has a real interest and concrete proposals for the development of cooperation with Serbia, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Mikhail Myatlikov said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Serbia Ilina Vukajlović in the BelCCI on 13 February, BelTA learned from the BelCCI.
Relations between Belarus and Serbia are traditionally friendly, Mikhail Myatlikov said. “In 2024 our countries marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Over these years, Serbia has become a key partner of Belarus in the Balkans. There is a free trade agreement between our countries. A visa waiver program is applied. A trust-based dialogue has been established at the highest level,” the chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said.
At the meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic at the World Climate Summit last November Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized the need to intensify bilateral relations through the intergovernmental commission and exchange visits at the level of governments. “Before the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, we believe it would be advisable to work out the issue of organizing a visit of a delegation of Serbian business representatives to Belarus to discuss cooperation with Belarusian enterprises in various areas of the economy,” he said.
Mikhail Myatlikov invited Serbian business circles to visit Belarus to hold talks with domestic enterprises, timing their visit to one of the exhibitions held in the country, for example Belagro. He expressed hope that the BelCCI would intensify cooperation with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
According to the BelCCI head, the two countries have been actively developing cooperation at the interregional level. “There are 12 cooperation agreements between the regional chambers of Belarus and Serbia. Recently, the BelCCI Office in Mogilev organized a visit of Belarusian business representatives to Belgrade. There are good results. For example, a contract has been signed to supply Belarusian berries to Serbia,” he said.
Belarusian business has a real interest and specific proposals for the development of cooperation and implementation of joint projects, Mikhail Myatlikov said. “The BelCCI is ready to continue providing Belarusian and Serbian business with comprehensive support in a wide range of areas,” the BelCCI chairman added.
In 2024, Serbian companies concluded deals worth $4 million at the exchange trading sessions, said Aleksandr Bashliy, head of foreign economic activity at BUCE. “This year, we have strengthened our efforts in this area, providing assistance to each client separately,” he said. “We have already concluded deals for $2.1 million for almost a month and a half of this year, which is a twofold increase compared to the same period last year. In 2025, we want to increase the volume of deals involving Serbian companies. BUCE plans to participate in exhibitions and events to present the potential of exchange trading to Serbian partners this year.”
The meeting with Ilina Vukajlović was also attended by representatives of Belcoopsoyuz, BNBC, Gomselmash, Belgospishcheprom, and representatives of interested Belarusian companies.
