MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – What social and economic goals Minsk faces in 2026 and in the current five-year term have been explained by Chairman of the Economy Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee Aleksandr Yevseyev during a city information stream in Minsk City Hall, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Yevseyev remarked that the meeting at the city hall focused on the development of the regions and of the city of Minsk. He recalled that Minsk’s contribution to Belarus’ gross domestic product stands at 31.6%. This is why the capital city faces multiple tasks.
The official stressed that the key goal for this year and for the entire current five-year term is to hit key targets. “If we talk about 2026, then it is necessary to secure the growth rate of the gross regional product at 102.8%, get the fixed-capital investments to 102.4%, and hit other targets,” he added.
During the information stream Aleksandr Yevseyev also noted that the development of Minsk’s satellite towns will be emphasized in the future. He recalled that quite a lot of housing had already been built in the town of Smolevichi. The official stressed that the matter prioritizes not only housing construction but also comfort of the residents. The time needed to reach the capital city, social infrastructure, and other aspects are considered. “These matters are considered as a complex,” he noted.
Certainly, matters of development of the metro system and the urban transport, of increasing the export of merchandise and services, of developing manufacturing facilities, tourism, and many other spheres will be topical as well.
Aleksandr Ketner, an analyst with the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research (BISR), also took part in the meeting. He said that the institute together with trade unions periodically organizes opinion polls. “Due to the information we receive during polls we manage to get a glimpse into the future and pass on our recommendations and analytical materials to decision-makers,” the analyst said.
Aleksandr Ketner mentioned a number of things that Minsk residents are worried about: “Just like all residents of the country they are interested in steady operation of their enterprises, the level of wages, the development of the capital city, and expected improvements. Apart from that, there is interest in international situation because the global situation is tense not only around our country but far away.” He stressed that decisions are made in the city taking into account the opinion and comfort of residents.
