Manturov: Russia is willing to increase funding for joint projects with Belarus

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – Russia is willing to increase funding for joint projects with Belarus, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov told BelTA following a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 28 October.

"During the meeting with the president we compared notes on the projects funded with the Russian RUB100 billion loan. These are projects in microelectronics, chemistry, metallurgy, mechanical engineering - where we see the joint use of products that will be made in Belarus," Denis Manturov said.

In addition, the meeting discussed the implementation of Decree No. 3 of the Union State on the common industrial policy in terms of the use of measures and instruments of financial support for the two states. "We came to the conclusion that the work is going well. This has already been implemented under one program (public transport). Belarus has come up with a proposal in terms of the other eight programs. We will promptly complete this work and  ensure a single format and access to financial instruments," Denis Manturov said.

The topic of a possible increase in financing of joint projects will be discussed further during the negotiations in the government of Belarus with Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko and the deputy prime minister. Denis Manturov is set to tour BelAZ and BelGEE plants.

“This will also give an additional opportunity to understand where we could expand industrial cooperation, including possible additional sources of financing for these projects,” Denis Manturov said.

“So far we have received only a preliminary proposal [from Belarus],” he said. “I expect that we will talk about it in more detail today.”

When asked whether Russia is ready to increase financing of joint projects with Belarus if mutual interest is found, Denis Manturov replied: “Of course. The focus will be on ensuring that the products manufactured by Belarusian enterprises are aimed at the Russian and Belarusian markets in the first place. If the Belarusian enterprise has higher competences than a Russian one, we will count on the competences that Belarusian partners have according to the agreement we reached some time ago.” In his words, such an approach can be used in various sectors, not only in machine building, but also in the chemical industry, for example.

“I am sure that we will continue to find solutions for such joint projects,” Denis Manturov emphasized. “Industrial interaction between our countries is actively developing, especially today, when the West is trying to create maximum pressure on Russia and Belarus in terms of technological equipment, components, units. We have set ourselves the task to reach the level of technological sovereignty that will allow us to have our own fixed assets (machine tools, equipment), our own units and components to ensure the production of those industrial products that are needed by the two economies - Russia and Belarus.”
