GOMEL, 29 January (BelTA) – Gomel Oblast’s enterprises produced more than $1 billion worth of import-substituting products in 2025, Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko said at a meeting of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, BelTA has learned.
The meeting took stock of the socio-economic development of the region in 2025 and defined the tasks for 2026, the first year of a new five-year period.
Attanding the meeting was Yuri Nazarov, Head of the Presidential Property Management and Presidential Authorized Representative in Gomel Oblast.
"In general, the region completed 2025 with a strong result. The gross regional product grew by 2.4%, which allowed Gomel Oblast, along with Minsk, to become the leader in terms of growth rates in the country," Ivan Krupko stated.
According to the governor, the production of agricultural goods increased by almost 12%. "More than $1 billion worth of import-substituting products have been manufactured. Almost 570,000 square meters of housing were commissioned, including 90,000 square meters with state support. More than Br7 billion have been invested in the region's economy. Budget revenues went up by 17%, which made it possible to fully meet all social obligations," the head of the region addressed the results.
"The key indicator by which people assess the state of the economy is wages. In 2025, it grew by 16%. This means that economic growth is directly converted into an improvement in the quality of life," Ivan Krupko pointed out.
"It is especially important to emphasize that all we do, we do for the benefit of people. Figures and indicators make sense only when they are backed by affordable medicine and high-quality education, comfortable courtyards, well-maintained settlements, decent working conditions, and people's confidence in tomorrow," the governor emphasized.
He also drew attention to the fact that the Year of Improvement had been completed, but he emphasized that the approach (respect for people and the environment) should become the norm of daily work in 2026 and throughout the five-year period.
"2025 was the first year of a five-year plan for quality improvement. Several products from our enterprises were awarded the State Quality Mark, confirming their high level of quality, competitiveness, and demand in both domestic and international markets. Our goal is to expand this list. We aim to orient regional companies towards achieving the highest standards and receiving the State Quality Mark as a sign of trust between the government and consumers. Product quality, management quality, and responsible behavior are key priorities for the future," Ivan Krupko summed up.
