Belarusian government's projections harmonized with sustainable development goals

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – Forecast documents are harmonized with sustainable development goals and tasks, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Economy Minister Tatiana Brantsevich.

The official took part in a meeting with youth ambassadors of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) on 29 April. The event was organized upon the initiative of the national coordinator on reaching the SDGs Anatoly Isachenko. It took place in the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank. The achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals was discussed as well as the involvement of the youth ambassadors in promoting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Tatiana Brantsevich mentioned the Economy Ministry's contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Belarus. She noted: “Belarus is one of the leaders in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. We are ranked 18th out of 166 countries in the SDG index. In the last five years the republic became one of the countries with a very high level of human development and is ranked 53rd out of 189 countries. These results became the starting point for the forecast documents the Economy Ministry is developing. The measures they stipulate directly or indirectly help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.”

In particular, a national strategy on sustainable development for the period till 2035 has been worked out. 2020 saw active work on the main provisions of a five-year program and on the program itself. The program is closely connected with provisions of the strategy on sustainable development for the period till 2035 and covers the first stage of the strategy's implementation. In turn, government programs, which definitely include information about how indicators of the program measure up to the Sustainable Development Goals, are tools for implementing the five-year program. “Thus, the forecast documents we are developing are harmonized with the sustainable development goals and tasks,” the deputy economy minister noted.
