Belarus to gradually adopt digital timber record keeping system in 2021

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – A digital system to record all transactions involving timber will be gradually adopted in Belarus in 2021, BelTA from Belarusian Forestry Minister Vitaly Drozhzha at a press conference on 19 February.

The official said: “We came up with a model for the system and corrected some errors after that. We had to find another contractor. We found a company that fully complies with our requirements. The project is moving forward successfully, a pilot system is already available. Virtually all the issues relating to the incorrect operation of the system have been addressed. We will have to submit the system to a security certification test as from September. We are going to gradually adopt the system next year.”

Work to develop a uniform state automated information system to record timber and all deals with it began in Belarus in 2017. Not only forestry enterprises will use the system but also transporters of raw wood materials as well as state-run and private companies that deal with the forestry industry.
