MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – Cooperation in economy, science, technology and culture between Belarus and Russia’s Altai Territory and prospects for cooperation are high on the agenda of the 9th meeting of the bilateral commission for the coordination of cooperation in Minsk on 28 May, BelTA has learned.
The meeting is set to identify growth points in such areas as industry, agriculture, science and education, transport, housing and utilities, construction, sport, tourism, health and spa tourism, culture.
According to statistics, Belarus, despite its geographical remoteness, is one of the major foreign trade partners of Altai Territory. More than 20 industrial enterprises of Altai cooperate with Belarusian companies in import substitution and industrial projects. In 2023, the trade between Belarus and Altai Territory increased by 2% over 2022 and amounted to $108.2 million; exports rose by 3.7% and reached $48 million.
Belarusian First Deputy Industry Minister Aleksandr Ogorodnikov stressed that the partners are not going to stop at these figures and are mapping our the steps to increase trade. "I am sure that experts will dive deep into every issue, from industrial interaction to culture, science, medicine. All areas are very, very important to us. I am convinced that Altai Territory, like all regions of Russia, are our best partners," Aleksandr Ogorodnikov said.
Governor of Altai Territory Viktor Tomenko focused on the areas of cooperation that Belarus and Altai paid little attention to before. This applies the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for civilian purposes, namely for the needs of agriculture, the education system and environmental activities, and the Belarusian experience in creating complexes for processing municipal solid waste. According to Viktor Tomenko, more intensive cooperation will make it possible to explore the possibility of launching a direct air service between Minsk and Barnaul. The governor promised to pay attention to the purchase of firefighting and emergency rescue equipment made in Belarus.
The 9th meeting of the bilateral commission will result in the signing of a protocol and an action plan for 2024-2026 to the agreement between the Belarusian government and the Altai Territory administration on cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology and culture of 22 October 2014.
