Belarus PM slams Latvia, Poland as unreliable partners

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) - Latvia and Poland are unreliable partners in terms of long-term cooperation, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said in an interview to Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We see this decision as absolutely illegal from the point of view of both international law and bilateral relations. We do not interfere in internal affairs, unlike the Lithuanian authorities who are trying to interfere in our internal affairs. We are hedging our risks, securitizing our economic interests. That is why potash fertilizers will go the other way; we have already been delivering them to other states. Ukraine and Russia are out marine shipping points. Potash goes mostly to Russia. There are also rail shipments to China,” said Roman Golovchenko.

In his words, Latvia and Poland are unreliable partners in terms of building up long-term cooperation because of their policy towards Belarus. “When it comes to big money and serious projects, it is impossible to work with unreliable partners. Other Belarusian goods are still supplied via Lithuania's port in Klaipeda. However, if the situation continues developing in the same way, we will stop these supplies, too. What will the port of Klaipeda do then is a big question,” the prime minister said.
