Belarus' external state debt 2.6% down in January-February

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – As of 1 March 2022 Belarus' external state debt totaled $17.8 billion, down by $0.5 billion or 2.6% since the beginning of the year (taking into account differences in currency exchange rates), BelTA learned from the Belarusian Finance Ministry.

In January-February 2022 the Belarusian government borrowed the equivalent of $130.1 million abroad and spent $388.1 million to repay the external state debt.

As of 1 March 2022 Belarus' state debt totaled Br61.4 billion, up by Br3.2 billion or 5.4% since the beginning of the year.

The internal state debt amounted to Br12.4 billion as of 1 March. Taking into account differences in currency exchange rates, the internal state debt rose by Br0.6 billion or 4.9% since the beginning of the year.

In January-February 2021 the Belarusian government did not sell any domestic government bonds and redeemed $56.2 million worth of government bonds nominated in foreign currencies from corporations and individuals.
