Belarus expected to get $46m from export of healthcare services in 2019

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – Belarus' export of healthcare services is expected to reach $46 million in 2019, up from about $43 million in 2018. Export accomplishments of the Belarusian healthcare industry and the pharmaceutical industry are highlighted by a special edition of the Export of Belarus magazine, BelTA learned from the National Marketing Center of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The interest of foreign citizens in Belarusian healthcare services has been on the rise for the last few years. Belarusian Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik attributed the trend to the huge efforts poured into improving the physical infrastructure of Belarusian healthcare institutions, the adoption of new medical technologies and treatment techniques.

In 2018 Belarusian clinics provided medical aid to over 150,000 foreigners from 130 countries. The average bill per foreign patient is on the rise: it was close to $85 in 2010, now it exceeds $300.

The demand for recreation in Belarusian sanatoriums is traditionally high. Every year they welcome about 1.3 million people, including 200,000 guests from abroad. Export earnings from sanatorium and recreation services are close to $100 million. According to Director of the Republican Center for Health Improvement and Sanatorium-Resort Treatment of the Population Gennady Bolbatovsky, medical services make Belarusian sanatoriums stand out from the crowd. Thanks to visa-free travel opportunities the average annual number of foreign guests in near-border areas in Brest Oblast and Grodno Oblast has more than doubled.

The Export of Belarus magazine is published by the National Marketing Center with assistance of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The magazine is available in Russian and English. It will be distributed at major international events in Belarus and abroad. It will be distributed by Belarusian diplomatic missions abroad for the sake of promoting interests of Belarusian companies.
