Morocco hosting its first World Sambo Championships

MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – The World Sambo Championships have just kicked off in Morocco. The first final bouts are scheduled for 13 November, BelTA informs.

Partaking in the world sport forum are athletes from 82 countries, among whom there are debutants from Barbados, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Cuba, Congo, Vietnam and Peru. The competitions will be held in the biggest sport center of Casablanca – Mohamed V Sport Center that seats 7,000 people. Television companies from 10 countries, including the Belarus Five TV Channel, will cover the event. The Belarusian sambo national team is considered among the favorites of the tournament. Medal events will be held in nine sambo weight categories and nine combat sambo categories.

Last year the world sport forum was held in Japan. Vyacheslav Kot's team collected two silver and four bronze medals. In 2012 the World Sambo Championships were hosted by Minsk at which Belarusian athletes won 17 (two gold, five silver and 10 bronze) medals.
