Europe best USA in hammer throw

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – European athletes won the hammer throw event at the Match Europe v USA in Minsk on 9 September, BelTA has learned.

Poland's Pawel Fajdek showed the best result of 80.71m. Second placed his fellow compatriot Wojciech Nowicki (78.33m). Third was UK's Nick Miller (77.89m).

The first place in the women's triple jump event was taken by Tori Franklin of the United States (14.36m). Portugal's Patricia Mamona threw 14.21m to finish second. Third was Lithuania's Dovile Kilty (14.08m).

Europe occupied two first spots in the women's pole vault with Russia's Anzhelika Sidorova winning the event with 4.85m. Olympic champion Katerina Stefanidi of Greece placed second with 4.70m. Katie Nageotte of the USA showed the same result to finish third. Belarus' Iryna Zhuk placed 5th with 4.60m.

Elise Cranny of the United States won the women's 3,000m event in 9:00.70. Second was her teammate Rachel Schneider (9:00.77). British Eilish McColgan finished third in 9:01.03. Katsiaryna Karneyenka of Belarus placed 7th with the time of 9:13.79.
