Belarus plans to complete number of infrastructure projects ahead of 2019 European Games

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Communications plans to complete the implementation of a number of large infrastructure projects ahead of the 2019 European Games, Belarus' Minister of Transport and Communications Anatoly Sivak told the media on the sidelines of the Belarusian Transport Week on 3 October, BelTA has learned.

“By the European Games we should complete the reconstruction of the parts of the motorways M6 Minsk-Grodno and R23 Minsk-Mikashevichi, and the construction of the second airport runway. There tasks in the preparation of the infrastructure and facilities for every subsector of the road and transport complex,” he said.

Anatoly Sivak also told the media how transport workers are preparing for the IIHF World Championship which is due to take place in Minsk and Riga in 2021. "We will invest in the road infrastructure near Polotsk to reach a new level of roads in terms of parameters and quality. This is our number one task for now. The railways companies are expected to present a brand new product. Investment is also envisaged in the projects at the border," the minister said.

The Belarusian Transport Week is taking place in Minsk from 3 to 5 October. It includes the 11th edition of the international exhibition Transport and Logistics 2017 and an eventful business program with plenary sessions, conferences and seminars. The events will focus on the issues of passenger transportation, improving cargo transportation, containerization and efficient management in supply chains, ensuring traffic safety and transport operation.
