Belarus 4th at Semyon Khalipsky Memorial Tournament in Minsk

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – Belarus' U17 basketball team placed fourth at the international Semyon Khalipsky Memorial Tournament in Minsk, BelTA informs.

In the first two matches Viktoria Datsun's team faced players one year older. The Belarusians lost to the Czech Republic 56-93 and Estonia 66-72. Although the Belarusians produced a good game against China, they lost 74-84, too.

China won the tournament after claiming victories in all three matches. Second was the Czech Republic. Estonia placed third.

For Belarusian and Chinese teams the tournament in Minsk was a rehearsal ahead of the 2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup in Minsk scheduled for 21-29 July.

This week the Belarusian U17 team will travel to France where they will face China on 21 June, France on 22 June and Mozambique on 23 June as part of the first stage of the international tournament. Later, Belarus will also take on Latvia and Lithuania. Once back to Minsk, the Belarusians will play New Zealand ahead of the start of the championship.

At the 2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup the Belarusian U17 team will play in Group A against Colombia (21 July), Japan (22 July) and France (24 July).
