Azarenka off to good start at San Jose 2018

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 108 Victoria Azarenka went off to a good start at the San Jose 2018, BelTA informs.

Victoria Azarenka saw off Ukraine's world number 56 Kateryna Bondarenko 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 7-5. The match lasted for 2 hours 45 minutes. The Belarusian will next face Spain's world number 7 Garbine Muguruza.

Belarus' world number 69 Vera Lapko will face China's world number 32 Zhang Shuai. In the doubles event Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus and Sofia Kenin of the United States will take on the U.S.-Paraguay tandem of Irina Falconi and Veronica Cepede Royg.

In Washington Belarus' world number 126 Ilya Ivashko lost the opener to Poland's world number 120 Hubert Hurkacz 4-6, 3-6.

In Austria's Kitzbuhel Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Austria's Philipp Oswald will open against the Slovakia-Ukraine duet of Igor Zelenay and Denys Molchanov, while Andrei Vasilevsky of Belarus and France's Hugo Nys will take on the German tandem of Tim Putz and Jan-Lennard Struff.
