MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka has been seeded sixth in the women's singles at Wimbledon. She holds the same position in the WTA rankings, BelTA has learned.
Fellow Belarusian Max Mirnyi and his men's doubles partner Treat Huey of the Philippines have been seeded 12th. The duo goes 5th in the ATP doubles rankings.
The draw ceremony for the Wimbledon 2016 tournament will take place on 24 June.
On 22 June Max Mirnyi and Treat Huey completed their performance in Nottingham losing their game for the semifinal spot to Oliver Marach of Austria and Fabrice Martin of France 4-6, 7-5, 5-10.
Elsewhere, Belarusian world number 288 Vladimir Ignatik secured a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win over Renzo Olivo of Argentina (World No. 153) in the first round of the Wimbledon qualifying. On 22 June he lost a tight battle to Dennis Novikov of the United States (146). 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 8-10. Another Belarusian Ilya Ivashko (235) lost to Tim Smyczek of the United States (125) 6-7 (3-7), 2-6 in the qualifying opener.
The Wimbledon main draw begins on 27 June.
