Cutting-edge MRI scanner installed in Grodno thanks to transboundary cooperation project

GRODNO, 2 February (BelTA) – A state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging scanner has been installed in the Grodno Oblast Teaching Hospital thanks to financial assistance of a transboundary cooperation project, BelTA learned from representatives of the Healthcare Office of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee.

The medical equipment worth €1.3 million has been bought thanks to the hospital's participation in the transboundary program Poland-Belarus-Ukraine. The Grodno Oblast budget has allocated about €460,000 for the sake of buying additional equipment as part of the project meant to advance cooperation between healthcare institutions of Belarus and Poland for the sake of improving access to medical services and improving their quality in providing emergency aid, diagnosing and treating cerebrovascular accidents. The equipment has been installed by German specialists. Medics started examining the first few patients on 2 February.

The MRI scanner boasts high resolution and represents the latest generation of products made by a well-known Western manufacturer. The scanner will improve the quality of medical aid for treating cerebrovascular accidents. The scanner will also make this kind of diagnostics more accessible.

In the past Grodno had three MRI scanners, which operated at their capacity. One of them is located in the oblast hospital, another one is in the emergency aid hospital. The third one is installed in the Grodno Oblast hospital for children and is used to examine children and adults.

Healthcare institutions in Grodno Oblast take an active part in transboundary cooperation programs and often receive grants. As a result of such programs about €6 million was injected into the Grodno Oblast healthcare system in 2011-2015. The Grodno Oblast Teaching Hospital has renewed equipment as part of five projects of the Poland-Belarus-Ukraine program.
