Belarus, Oman to sign memorandum of understanding in culture

MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – The Culture Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Heritage and Culture of the Sultanate of Oman are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding, BelTA learned from the ministry.

The document will be signed during an official visit of Belarus' Culture Minister Yuri Bondar to the Sultanate of Oman on the invitation of the Omani minister of heritage and culture from 31 March to 3 April. The talks will be held with Omani Minister of Heritage and Culture, member of the royal family Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.

The Belarusian delegation will comprise Director General of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater Vladimir Gridyushko who plans to discuss the signing of the memorandum of bilateral cooperation with the Royal Opera House Muscat.

The National History Museum of Belarus and the National Museum of the Sultanate of Oman in Muscat have prepared the exhibition project "Belarus at the Crossroads of Civilizations" that will be on show in the Sultanate of Oman from 2 April to 4 July 2018. The idea of the exhibition can be explianed by the words of the Belarusian president during the opening ceremony of the cathedral mosque in Minsk in 2016: “Since ancient times, Belarus has been famous for the traditions of religious tolerance and respect among the people of different religions. In our country mosques have been freely built to provide every Muslim with a place to talk to God. The Cathedral Mosque in Minsk will become a symbol of inter-religious peace, a place to pray for residents and visitors of the Belarusian capital.”

The main idea of the exhibition is the conflict-free coexistence of Belarusians with representatives of various Muslim nations, and the traditional tolerance to Islam in Belarus, the Belarusian Culture Ministry stressed.
