Sajdik: Ukraine is ready for more unilateral release of POWs

MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - Ukraine is ready to release 15 more prisoners of war on a unilateral basis, OSCE special representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik told the media on 21 December.

Martin Sajdik noted that the Working Group on Humanitarian Issues had a thorough discussion on the release of persons detained in the context of the conflict. During this week, several persons have been released both by the Ukrainian side and by certain areas of Donetsk region.

“The Ukrainian side expressed its readiness to unilaterally release additional 15 people, as a humanitarian gesture, by the end of this year, among them women and wounded,” said the OSCE special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine. He said he appreciated and welcomed the move. “I hope that it will give impetus to reciprocal steps by certain areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions,” he added.

As for the exchange of prisoners in a “all for all” swap, Martin Sajdik noted that the parties should agree on the verified lists of people that should be released.
