Progress in Ukraine mine clearance talks in Minsk

MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) – Certain progress has been secured in negotiations on mine clearance, BelTA learned from Martin Sajdik, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine, on 6 April.

“Certain progress has been reached yet many issues still need to be addressed,” said the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office's special representative.

Martin Sajdik explained that during the 6 April talks the subgroup on security affairs discussed the implementation of plans to clear mines in 12 priority areas. The considerable increase in the number of ceasefire violations since January 2016 is still a problem. “It is particularly bad in the area around Avdeyevka,” he added.

In his opinion, in order to prevent the conflict from further escalation and step down violence, all the sides should demonstrate restraint and observe the ceasefire agreement.
