Contact group on Ukraine in Minsk calls for Easter truce

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – The contact group on Ukraine in Minsk has spoken in favor of a truce as from 00:00 on 30 April, BelTA learned from Martin Sajdik, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine, on 29 April.

“The idea to stop all hostilities particularly in view of forthcoming Easter and the May holidays has gained support,” said Martin Sajdik. He relayed the contact group's statement on the matter. “It has been agreed that the relevant instructions to fully cease the hostilities will be brought to the attention of all the responsible parties at the local level. It has also been confirmed that the necessary steps will be made to guarantee the security of observers of the OSCE's special monitoring mission,” the statement reads.

The trilateral contact group will keep an eye on the fulfillment of the decision and will take steps, including the organization of immediate mutual consultations if the arrangements fail.

“Bearing the abovementioned in mind, the trilateral contact group would like to request the OSCE's special monitoring mission to name those responsible for breaking the ceasefire if it happens,” the statement reads.
